Day Eight of my “30-Days of Gratitude” journey
September 12, 2017
Dear Mom,
I was just thinking about my happiest childhood memories, and I remember the pure inner joy I feel when I see you smile. I am grateful for your smile.
I am grateful that no matter what, I have your love. I’m grateful that you stay in the same home. I’m grateful you (almost) always answer the phone when I call.
I’m grateful for your willingness to understand me. I am grateful for your patience. I am grateful for your love.
I am grateful that, with you, I can laugh. I am grateful that, with you, I can cry. I am grateful that, with you, I can dream and learn and be me…just be me.
I am grateful for your summer trip to California. I am grateful for all we shared. I am grateful for our soulful growth. I am grateful that I will see you again. I am grateful that our love only gets stronger.
I am grateful for the memories of song and piano filling the walls of our home. I am grateful for your voice. I am grateful for your musical talents. I am grateful for your spirit in reaching out to create a better sound. I am grateful for your smile (I know I told you that already).
I am grateful for you supporting my goals. I am grateful of your acceptance. I am grateful to have your respect. I am grateful that you are respectable.
I am grateful for the memories of you surrounded by books on the sofa; and I am grateful for the opportunity to watch you read prolifically. I am grateful for the opportunity to see you walk in the sunshine three times a day. I’m even grateful for the giggles that overcome me when I think of Cheetos and Cheerios…because of you.
I am grateful you share your fresh pecans every season. I am grateful that you taught me perseverance and the ability to stand by true values. I am grateful to know you are safe.
I am grateful for your gifts. I am grateful for your generosity. I am grateful for your willingness to give of yourself to me. I am grateful for all the cards you ever wrote to me.
I am grateful for your beautiful eye color that makes looking at you so pleasant. I am grateful for your evolving maturity. I am grateful you love girls-days-out at the mani/pedi salon.
I am grateful for the opportunity to share a mystical sunset with you on Crystal Cove. I am grateful that you traveled to play with me and Gavin in Asia. I am grateful for our mornings watching our boy play in the pool under the banana leaves.
I am grateful that you show so much love to my son. I am grateful you find his wit as funny as I do. I am grateful for the games we played. I am grateful we can share those special moments with him together.
I am grateful for you encouraging me to find my own way. I am grateful you kept a connection between us no matter how many miles or foreign lands. I am grateful you took the time to understand the real me.
I am grateful that because of you, I can grow to become all that I am capable of becoming. I am grateful for the soft touch of your hand on my cheek and I am grateful for your moist cheek against my own when we embrace. I am grateful for your long bedtime hugs.
I am grateful you are willing to put your own needs aside and come to my side. I am grateful for your natural nursing style. I am grateful you are willing to freely give of your heart to me and to others. I am grateful to you for being the inspiration behind me living a happier life. And I am grateful that because of you, I am able to write these letters of gratitude.
I am grateful I am blessed with you for a mom.
I Love You, Mom.
Carisa
