Gratitude Letter to Kathryn

By Carisa Carlton

Day Eleven of my “30-Days of Gratitude” journey

September 21, 2017

Dear Kathryn,

I am grateful that when I introduced myself to you in a phone call from Singapore, you opened your heart to me. I am grateful that you are adventurous enough to fetch a stranger from the LAX airport. I am grateful you were willing to go with me to find my son.

I am grateful for the movie reviews you share. I am grateful for the knowledge you share. I am grateful for your unique expression of the human condition.

I am grateful for your editing assistance. I am grateful for your insight into all matters. I am grateful for your willingness to teach me better writing skills.

I am grateful that you creatively orchestrated the purchase of a car I love. I am grateful that you helped me settle into South Orange County. I am grateful that you took time off work to represent me in the best light.

I am grateful for the example you set by raising your son as a single mom. I am grateful for your outstanding “Teacher of the Year” example that mirrors my own experience with you. I am grateful for your invitations to mingle with your intellectual friends.

I am grateful that you maintain contact even now as distance makes rendez-vous less convenient. I am grateful for the pink marble stand that has graced my home for years. I am grateful for all the Indian lunchtime buffets.

I am grateful for your wit. I am grateful for your curiosity. I am grateful for your sense of humor. I am grateful for your expression of mindful living. I am grateful for your ability to share your personal history with me. I am grateful for your friendship.

I am grateful that you accept my unique circumstances and I am grateful that you have never let anyone dictate your own view of me.

I am grateful for the afternoons of Scrabble with my son and I am grateful you treat my child with loving kindness.

I am grateful for your social consciousness and I am grateful you are just the way you are.

Kathryn, trusting others is one of the keys to personal joy, and I am grateful you taught me to trust others through your interactions with me.

With gratitude, I am comforted by your role in my life.

Carisa
